The Armenian Massacres

THE HORRORS CONFIRMED

A HIDEOUS TALE OF DEVILISH ATROCITIES

LONDON, Feb. 27.

The Daily Telegraph publishes detailed accounts of the Armenian atrocities from its special correspondent in Armenia.

The writer confirms in every particular the previous reports of the horrors perpetrated by the Turkish troops upon the Armenian Christians. The Turkish soldiers, he says, worked day and night to remove all traces of the massacres before the arrival of the Commission of Inquiry appointed by the Turkish Government. Hundreds of mutilated bodies of the victims were thrown into a pit and lighted petroleum was poured into the pit with the object of consuming the bodies. These and other means failing, the limbs of the victims were buried piecemeal. 360 Armenians who were regarded as likely witnesses of the massacres, and who relied on the Turkish commander for their safety, were murdered in cold blood.

The account of the massacres is a long and hideous tale of devilish atrocities perpetrated upon Armenian men and women.
