The Armenian Atrocities

COMMISSION OF INQUIRY

NATURE OF THE REFORMS DEMANDED

LONDON, May 14.

The British, French, and Russian joint note to Turkey with reference to reforms in Armenia demands that one-third of the officials shall be Christians; that the Powers shall have a right of veto over the appointment of Governors; that there shall be a mixed gendarmerie, regular assizes, and prison inspection; that the Kurds shall be disarmed; that the sufferers by the recent atrocities shell be reimbursed; and that a permanent commission shall be appointed to watch over the administration of the country.

The Commission of Inquiry in Armenia has discovered the pit at Gellygoozan into which the bodies of a number of the victims of the atrocities were thrown. It has also come upon the ruins of several villages which were destroyed by the Kurds.
