The Eastern Question

CONDITION OP ARMENIA

INDESCRIBABLE SUFFERINGS

FORCED CONVERSIONS TO ISLAM

LONDON, Feb. 5.

Letters received from Asia Minor give terrible accounts of the sufferings of the Armenians.

At Erzeroum, the capital of Armenia, and at Trebizond, on the Black Sea, the distress existing among the Armenians, especially the women and children, is said to be beyond description. All their means of livelihood have been destroyed, and they are literally starving.

In the Bitlis district thousands of Armenians have been compelled to become Mohammedans as the only means of saving their lives.
